Wednesday, April 23, 2008 ( @ 4:30 PM ) Before you continue reading, please have a bible and a notebook with you and read through the verses first. This is an indication of faith that God is going to reveal to you something so important that you have to write it down. Thanks. May the Lord speak to you as you read on and allow His Spirit to minister to you. Romans 8: 1- 4 " Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful humanity to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in human flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit." - There are two laws working here: 1. The law of the Spirit 2. The law of sin and death We were all once subjected to the law of sin and death, which states that all who sin MUST die. The original intention of this law (the perfect law of God) was to convict people that sinning is bad, so that they will not sin when they see other people dying due to sin. However, it wasn't for long before all men had sinned at least once (not counting the Adam and Eve incident) in their lifetime and hence, the law became powerless - all men had to die. This is written in Romans 3: 19-20: "Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. 20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God's sight by observing the law: rather through the law we become conscious of our sin." And so, God, being loving and just, had to find a way to fulfill the requirements of the law so that men could live and have eternal life. The way is Jesus, Just as how a lamb had to be slain as a sin offering, Jesus died on the cross to bear the weight of the world's sin, so that we can be free of the death sentence given to us. Why must Jesus be a human? Because the law only applies to those under the law (see in Romans 3:19 above), which is man on earth. Then why must Jesus have divinity? This is where the law of the Spirit comes in. When Jesus died on the cross, He paid the price for one. ( the law states that one sin offering is for one man's sins.) But the law of the Spirit, which states that when we receive God's Spirit, we receive Jesus, and so whatever has happened to Jesus applies to us. We have inherited salvation and our lives become brand new. As a result, we are God's children. This is written in Romans 8: 14 -17: "For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry,"Abba Father." 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs - heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory." God has promised that Jesus will be glorified due to his obedience to God's will when he was on earth. Since we are brothers (and sisters yarz) of Jesus, we are promised the same glory if we stay obedient to God amidst our sufferings. (God is fair!) Before we think that it's not worth it, Paul said in Romans 8:18: "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." Amazing right? In fact, God has promised us that His grace is sufficient for us, for His strength is made perfect in our weakness! (2 Corinthians 12:9) So, let us pick up our crosses and follow God. Hebrews 10: 22-25: "Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a quilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 26 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching." Last but not least, let us run this race of life with Christ, in order that we may finish victoriously, exclaiming: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith! " (2 Timothy 4:7) Do check out the wonderful promise in the next verse, 2 Timothy 4:8! Prayer: Spend some time reflecting on what you just read and talk to God, that you may experience Him for yourself. Dear Lord God, thank You for loving me so much. Much more than I can ever imagine.
